Sports Racer Toyota

Now homologated in the SCCA to run in ASR and CSR!

This is a conversion kit to turn your Sports Renault into a Sports Racer Toyota.

The concept for this car came into being in the fall of 2003 when Steve was approached by a group in Aspen, Colorado who were looking for an alternative conversion to the Spec Racer Renault.  They desired a car with currently available parts and a bit more performance without giving up reliability and ease of maintenance.   By spring of 2004, a design had come together and a car was built.  Testing started and development continued through the summer of 2004.  The first customer cars were delivered to the Aspen Racing and Sports Car Club in the spring of 2005.  By that fall, fourteen cars had been delivered.  Using those cars for our beta testing, we addressed some of the small issues that have come up and implemented those changes into our ongoing production and development.

In December of 2005, we took the car to the first real race track outside of Aspen when we entered two Sports Racer Toyotas at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.  At that event, we discovered a major problem with the oiling system and have since come up with a dry sump oiling system to cure that issue.  We are very comfortable with the durability and longevity of the dry sump car having now run two for a total of 40 hard practice hours with minimal checks for upkeep. Those two cars then competed in the 2006 25 hour race finishing with no oiling issues. Ten other dry sump equipped cars are currently running in Aspen.  To date, we now have over 25 of these cars running at Aspen—15 of which have been very active this year. A couple more are in the works for them right now.

The teething pains are done, the homologation is in hand, and the car is ready for you to race.   We are confident that the car is ready for any track.  To date, the car has been tested at Aspen Racing and Sports Car Club in Colorado; Autobahn, Blackhawk, and Gateway in Illinois; Hallett in Oklahoma; Heartland Park in Kansas; Laguna Seca in California; Mid-America Motorplex in Iowa; Miller Motorsport Park in Utah; The Motorsport Ranch in Texas; Putnam Park in Indiana; Road America in Wisconsin; and Thunderhill in California.   We have yet to have a driver in the car who hasn’t loved it!

We are promoting this conversion as a fast, safe, reliable and fun car for track day use as well as being eligible for competition in any club sanctioned event if you add the homologation package. Current groups that have accepted the car include SCCA, NASA, Midwest Council, MPRA and COMMA.  We are offering a low cost alternative to the much more expensive popular track day cars such as the Lotus Elise, the Stohr or the Radical.

A conversion package for a Sports Renault including the dry sump package but without the SCCA legal roll bar and bodywork is available for $17,000. This package would probably not be economically feasable for converting a Ford since the SRF has a higher residual value.
